Develop a Plan for Academic Success
What goes into an academic plan? A lot more than just a list of courses. You need to know about stuff like the 8 degree requirements, Satisfactory Academic Progress, the Learning Studio, finding a community, Career Services, getting to class on time...just to name a few. We can help you put all of the pieces together.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
All undergraduate students must meet the college's standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
Academic Support Resources
To help you live intellectually, we offer services to give you that extra push you might need. The Learning Studio at Columbia College Chicago offers one-on-one tutoring as well as class-related services. Visit us to learn how to access all of the many offices that can support you both in and out of the classroom.
Understanding Class Standing
Unlike high school, where your class standing is determined by how many years you’ve attended school, Columbia ranks you on how many credits you’ve earned. If you have questions about whether you’re on the right track, come talk to a College Advisor.
- Freshmen have earned between 0 and 29 credits
- Sophomores have earned between 30 and 59 credits
- Juniors have earned between 60 and 89 credits
- Seniors have earned 90 or more credits
- Full-time students are enrolled in 12 to 16 credits per semester
- Part-time students are enrolled in 1 to 11 credits per semester
Taking certain steps as you matriculate through the college will ensure that you not only graduate, but are also prepared to live what you love. Make sure you read our Advising Timeline to see what you need to do when.
