Manifest 2017 Song Competition

Published on Dec 06, 2016

Are you a musician/band/composer/spoken word artist/talent agent?

We are looking for an eager, talented, responsible, and dedicated songwriter to work with us on creating the music for this year's Manifest music video. Manifest is Columbia College Chicago's signature end of the year urban arts festival celebrating the work of graduating seniors and graduate students.

The winner of the music score competition will receive $1000 from Columbia and the chance to have their work screened in front of 10,000 people at Commencement. Over the course of six ceremonies and with subsequent screenings of this clip at Columbia's orientation sessions and on the web, your total audience will reach close to 50,000 people.

We are open to new and original ideas for the music in any genre: rock, hip hop, indie folk, world music, you name it! Most importantly the composition should reflect the spirit of Columbia College--eclectic, creative, innovative, fun, and upbeat, and should be able to grip an audience of 10,000 when played on a giant screen. Think - big!  Think gripping, make our hearts leap!

The composition/song should be 3 minutes in length, may be with or without lyrics and should reflect the theme of this year’s Manifest, Emerge

The Manifest video is filmed the day of the event and includes footage from every department in the college. The video is edited throughout the day and overnight and is shown the next day at Columbia's commencement ceremonies. As the edit turnaround is overnight, we will need the music completed a few weeks prior to the Manifest event.

To enter, please create a spec composition and fill out an application for at by February 3, 2017.  If you already have a song you think fits the bill, you may submit that. You may submit more than one song. The top 3 finalists will be open to a public voting round by the student community. The chosen winner should expect to continue to work on several additional rounds of notes throughout March and April.
