In Word: Type + Image, nineteen poems are lifted from the convention of the white page and shaped into word pictures that crawl up gallery walls, hide in corners, wrap themselves around objects and spew out onto the gallery floor. Lines of verse no longer simply evoke images; they become images themselves. Word is a collaboration between Columbia College creative writing poetry students in the Department of English and typography students in the Department of Art and Design. The exhibition also features artwork by students who have responded to the subjects of the poems or who use words as an artform in their own right.
