The Columbia Community Gathers for Solar Eclipse
Students, faculty, and staff came together on a beautiful spring day in Chicago’s Grant Park to observe the first solar eclipse since 2017. “The Columbia Chronicle,” the college’s student-led newspaper, and the Science and Math Department organized the April 8 viewing party, which allowed the Columbia community to take a break and enjoy the sense of community that comes from a shared experience.
Columbia's Science and Math faculty were on hand to answer questions and pass out protective glasses and homemade pinhole viewers.
While the next solar eclipse won’t happen for another 20 years, there will be plenty more opportunities between now and then for the Columbia community to come together and take in the amazing city views offered in Columbia’s front yard — Grant Park.
