If the terms vector, layer and composite are foreign to you, you’re not a graphic designer. Still, graphic design is essential in the packaging and branding of your work. Graphic design assistance is now available every week thanks to the Portfolio Center‘s graphic design assistance program a.k.a the Portfolio Lab.
Clients (i.e. you) will bring your design-in-need materials to the Center to meet with a graphic designer who will help create a custom design that fits you and your body of work. Whether you need a design for your print book, business cards, CD/DVD cover or press kit, the program will help you package your work professionally.
To meet with a designer, you need to have your body of work pretty much done and you have an idea what type of design you want. You leave with all of the digital files you need to wow the people in your field.
The Portfolio Lab is available to juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni with six months of graduation.
You should also have some ideas about what you want your design to look like. Visit the Portfolio Center’s Graphic Design Assistance Quick Guide for an overview of the program and the things you need to think through.
Keep in mind that the designer you meet with will help you with your graphic identity; they won’t advise your body of work itself. For that, you’ll want to visit www.colum.edu/portfolio and review their site for a program or event relevant to your professional field.
You leave with all of the digital files you need to wow professionals. The Portfolio Center won’t be able to print your completed design work, but they will recommend places that do.
