5 Ways to Procrastinate Productively
Written by Stevie Loop
I know productive procrastination may sound like an oxymoron, as in “jumbo shrimp” or “affordable rent”, but just as you can enjoy a plump crustacean or class up a sweet studio, you can goof off in a way that will actually help you get more focused. Here’s how:
- Clean your workspace – Organized space, organized mind. I mean, how are you supposed to focus on anything when you can’t find where you put it? Decluttering feels good and it’s good for you work, too.
- Brainstorm with a roommate – Put your noisy roommate to use and get their perspective on your homework. Tell them the topic and get their view on the possibilities. They might be able to help you come up with new ideas or see a totally different direction for your project.
- Do something active – Try some push-ups, jumping jacks, yoga stretches, or just take a walk. Getting the blood flowing to your brain will change your perspective and push the reset button on your overtaxed brain.
- Search for ideas online – Instead of clicking through photos or watching Youtube, try searching your homework topic. Sites like documentaryheaven.com and stumbleupon.com are great ways to search within your field of study and get new ideas while keeping your brain on topic. It’s fun, too!
- Meditate – Nothing can recharge your depleted ideas faster than a few minutes of concentrated meditation. Sit straight, breathe deep and focus on clearing every stray thought out of that clever head of yours. By the time you’re done (aim for 10 minutes), you’ll be relaxed and ready to fill that brain back up with genius ideas.
