Have you been feeling out of it lately? Overwhelmed by the city and schoolwork? Columbia’s Counseling Services might just be a great resource for you.
They offer a variety of therapy options—all included in tuition. From counseling groups to couples therapy, and individual therapy sessions—there are a lot of great choices to help you get a handle on life. Although the individual sessions are limited to ten sessions per year, the group counseling is unlimited and they meet every week. The groups address things like anxiety and depression, social difficulties, and redefining relationships. All of the groups help to provide students with coping mechanisms and building skills to help you deal with these problems on your own.
A great way to decide if you or a friend should meet with a counselor is to take a quick online screening, that can be found on the Counseling Services website. Jeremy Hisaw, Director of Counseling Services, explains, “We do offer online screenings for depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders and substance abuse. Depending on how you score on those, it indicates whether you should contact our office.” The free and anonymous online screenings enable any student who is concerned to seek help. Hisaw ensures, “ We will help you know how to move forward.”
Columbia’s Counseling Services won’t turn anyone away. No matter the issue, they will find someone in the community who can help, even if they don’t have the resources.
Feel free to drop into the Counseling Services office anytime or give them a call. Before you start any of the therapy options you’ll have to complete a simple phone screening so they can find out what treatment will be the best fit for you.
