What you wear to a job interview will make a big impression on your potential employers. It will be one of the main ways that they remember you so make sure this first impression counts. Don’t lose out on a job offer because of a fashion faux-pas. That would be lame.

Don’t: Look sloppy. Never wear jeans, or anything with rips in it. If the bottom of your pants are fraying it may be time for a new hem or new pair. And keep long hair in check by pulling it back.

Don’t: Wear anything too revealing. A job interview is the time to look professional, not like you’re there to pick someone up. Nice suit, but let’s put a shirt on under it, okay?

Don’t: Wear too many patterns. Clashing prints will make you stand out, but not in a good way. If you’re going to wear a pattern just pick one and pair it with a more sedate solid.

Don’t: Have too much flair. A little fashion is good, but save your most stylish rags for Friday night.

Do: Wear nice shoes. Sandals, sneakers or worn-out shoes send the message that you don’t care. Stay professional; You don’t want your shoes to say “I’m hear to chill out in my cube and then hit the beach.”

Do: Show your creative side, especially if you are applying for a position in a creative field. You can wear a great dress or shirt, or accessorize with a creative piece of jewelry, tie, nice belt or scarf. Just don’t over do it (see the too much flair pic).
