Art + Design Student Wins Design Competition
Art + Design major Elizabeth Salinas is the first place winner of the Chicago Tobacco Prevention Project’s Quit to Win design contest. Salinas’s winning entry will be used on billboards and public transit platforms all over Chicago.
Columbia’s Television Department, Frequency TV, Journalism Department Wins Midwest Emmy Awards
The votes are in for the 53rd Midwest Emmy Awards and the winner is … Columbia! A huge congratulations to the Columbia College TV Department and Frequency TV for their College Student Production Award from the Television Academy for their live sketch show, Freq Out. The show takes a new spin on classic variety shows by using multimedia, live performances and audience interaction.
Graduate Student Melissa Sanchez Will Represent Columbia at the Annual American Dance Therapy Association Conference
Each year the Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling Department at Columbia sponsors a graduate student to present his/her thesis research at the annual American Dance Therapy Association Conference. This year Melissa Sanchez will share her work in progress, Experiencing a Mindful Body: The Use of Guided Meditation in Dance/Movement Therapy with the Addicted Person, at the conference’s Research and Thesis Project Poster Session on October 21st in Minneapolis, Minn. Sanchez received the award during the department’s annual Research Celebration.
Marketing Communication Students Place in Prestigious Advertising Competition
Columbia’s Marketing Communication Department’s Practicum Class took 8th place out of a field of 19 at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) National Competition in San Diego, California.

The 18th annual Hokin Honors exhibition showcases the work of undergraduate students who have been nominated by faculty at Columbia College Chicago for their outstanding artistic achievement. The exhibit features a range of artforms including photography, painting, sculpture, graphic design and video.
Frequency TV Named One of the Best On-Campus TV Stations
Columbia’s Frequency TV Won The New York Festivals 2011 Television & Film Awards Silver World Medal for Best On-Campus TV Station. FTV is the canvas of work produced by students of the Television Department at Columbia College Chicago. Staffed by advanced level students, FTV produces original programs along with cooperating with several television courses in the production of dramas, news pieces, talk shows, reality shows and beyond.
Eleven Columbia Students Join Teach For America
Eleven Columbia students have been selected to join Teach for America, a two-year non-profit teaching program dedicated to eliminating and raising awareness about educational inequality in the United States.
Hair Trigger and Fictionary Win Columbia University Scholastic Press Association Awards
Congratulations to the Fiction Department’s students and faculty, who received Silver Crowns on March 12 and 13 at the annual Columbia University Scholastic Press Association convention. The awards were given to the journals Hair Trigger 32 and Fictionary, marking Hair Trigger’s 18th award from the CSPA.
