We currently have a deal with the company Virb.com to offer free web portfolios to students for two years. A new company recently bought out Virb, and as a result, our partnership with Virb will be terminated at the end of the fall 2014 semester.
Starting in the spring semester, we will shift our focus to helping you prepare a strong portfolio site utilizing a multitude of platforms appropriate to your industry.
How this change impacts you:
After December 2014, we will no longer provide Virb support during walk-in hours (currently Monday through Friday between 11am to 1pm). Support is still available directly from the company via help.virb.com.
You will still have access to a free account for two years from the date it was created. After those two years, you can still get a discounted site for $8/month by using the code: columedu.
If you do not yet have a Virb site, you can still get two years free (only until December 2014) by visiting virb.com and using your loop email.
Talent Pool continues to be a free tool for all students. Visit talent.colum.edu to learn more or stop by the Portfolio Center for a more in-depth presentation on why having a Talent Pool account is beneficial.
Virb will no longer be our sole recommended web platform. As an alternative to Virb, we encourage you to explore the many other low cost or free web platform options for showcasing your work. Visit the Where to get Stuff page, or set up a consultation with a Portfolio Center representative to discuss ideal options for you and your industry.
Let us know if you have questions, and we look forward to seeing you for expanded web services in the future!
