Academic Center for Tutoring

The Columbia College Chicago Academic Center for Tutoring presents:
The Arlene Greene Memorial Art Showcase Award is dedicated to the legacy of a Columbia College Chicago graduate, Writing Center Director, faculty member, author, and beloved person of so many students and community members. For many years during her tenure as the Writing Center Director, Arlene sponsored the Annual English Department Art Showcase in what is now the Academic Center for Tutoring space. She had a deep appreciation for art, particularly student art in all its forms, which lined the Writing Center walls year after year.  In celebration of the tutoring center’s return to the former Writing Center space, and in honor of the indelible mark she made here, we invite students to submit their visual art for display during the academic year. A winner will be chosen by a peer jury to receive an award in Arlene’s honor.
The Academic Center for Tutoring is now accepting visual art and mixed media submissions! Here are the guidelines:
  • PHYSICAL SUBMISSIONS ONLY. Digital art must be printed. Submissions must be framed or mountable. Accepted submissions will be displayed at the ACT throughout the academic year to allow an audience to view these pieces. Accepted submissions will be returned to artists at the end of the academic year. If your piece is rejected, we will inform you so that you may return to collect it.
  • Submissions may be entered at the ACT front desk at 33 E. Ida B Wells Drive, on the first floor. Bring your artwork, and a piece of paper that states your piece’s title, your name, graduation year, and your major.
  • THE DEADLINE IS MARCH 27th. However, the earlier you submit your art the longer it will be displayed at the ACT. Give your art an audience!
  • Pieces depicting offensive or disturbing imagery will not be accepted. Remember, this is an academic institution. Use your best judgement.
  • One piece will be selected by a peer jury to receive the Arlene Greene Memorial Art Showcase Award, and a $250 Amazon gift card. A consolation prize will be awarded to two other finalists.
  • The winner of the Arlene Greene Memorial Art Showcase Award will be announced at a celebration located at the ACT. Date TBD.
