What They Half Create...

Exhibition Dates: January 8 - February 12, 2001

“What they half create…”

from “Above Tinturn Abbey” by William Wordsworth

Wordsworth, writing at the end of the 18th Century, expresses the beauty of the natural world and acknowledging the beauty as half perceived by the senses and “half created” by the human consciousness.  I feel that that here at the end of the 20th Century, Wordsworth’s observation has become a physical fact.  Human interaction with natural systems is now so pervasive that it half creates the world we occupy in a very real way.  As we move into the 21st Century we must assume that the human culture will continue to alter and effect natural systems.  The artists included here are profoundly conscious of the relationship of human action and natural systems and, in their work, encourage a conscious intentionally toward the world we “create”.
