Student Diversity and Inclusion
We are pleased to share that we have restructured the Multicultural Affairs office into a new Student Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) office. This change aligns with the college’s efforts to embrace many voices and experiences in order to cultivate a community that is diverse and inclusive.
Within the last year, many of our students have become more engaged in the dialogue of diversity and inclusion through relevant programming, and the college’s strategic efforts to weave diversity, equity, and inclusion into our curriculum. With the support of the college community, we will create more meaningful conversations that will better prepare students for the world beyond college.
SDI will serve as a valuable resource to students by continuing to foster and support the intellectual, social, and cultural development of all students through three areas of focus:
- Support for Academic Success – SDI staff will develop ways that encourage students to utilize the academic support services on campus, and also create a mentorship program consisting of faculty, staff, and students in their third and fourth years of study.
- Cultural Celebrations – Cultural celebrations offered throughout the year will have a focus on themes that are germane to the curriculum, such as film, photo and music.
- Workshops and Seminars – Educational programs will explore relevant topics of diversity and inclusion that students and our country may be grappling with.
SDI will continue to be home to our Latino, African American, Asian American, LGBTQIA, and religious student organizations, and this year, we’re excited to welcome our student veterans as well.
Our resources and spaces include a lounge, conference room, Multipurpose Studio, graffiti wall, Reading and Resource Room, Meeting and Meditaiton Room, and a Student Lab.
Please join us on the 4th floor of 618 S. Michigan as we come together, as a college to support you, our diverse students.
