At Columbia, students have not one, but two advisors.
College Advisors are assigned according to a student’s major or concentration. Students should feel free to contact their College Advisor directly with class scheduling questions, personal concerns, or just to check in. We recommend that students meet with their College Advisor at least once each academic year. College Advisors can be found in the College Advising Center at 623 S. Wabash. Students can make appointments by calling or logging into Oasis and clicking the Appointments tab.
Faculty advisors are faculty members in each department who provide more career-oriented advising. For example, students may work with faculty advisors to choose a concentration within their major or look for internships. Each department handles faculty advising differently and for that reason, some students won’t be assigned a faculty advisor until their sophomore or junior year.
The Services for Students with Disabilities Office provides accommodations for interpreting services, note taking, adaptive equipment and software, distraction free testing space, and proctor exams. To apply for SSD services, students should schedule an initial interview with an SSD staff member. Please contact the SSD office at (312) 369-8296 for more information.
The Student Health Center is located in the 731 S. Plymouth Court Residence Hall. Services are available to all current students with a student ID. The center provides medical treatment for a variety of ailments. A comprehensive list is available on their website.
If your student requires treatment for a more urgent or chronic condition, the Health Center can provide an off-campus referral.
Counseling services helps students by addressing their concerns and increasing their self-awareness. Every student can take advantage of ten free individual therapy sessions and an unlimited amount of group therapy sessions every year.
