Columbia Faculty and Alum to Be Featured on ABC7 Chicago’s Juneteenth Special

“Our Chicago: Freedom Music,” a celebration of freedom expressed through the music of Chicago’s Black community, will feature Adjunct Faculty Member Andre Daniels (aka Add-2) and Alum CaSera Heining ’17 (aka DJ Ca$h Era).

In observance of Juneteenth, ABC7 Chicago will broadcast a special entitled “Our Chicago: Freedom Music,” which features Audio, Arts, and Acoustics Adjunct Faculty Member Andre Daniels, a rapper known as Add-2, and Radio Alum CaSera Heining ’17 (aka DJ Ca$h Era).  

The special, a celebration of freedom expressed through the music of Chicago’s Black community, looks at several genres, including hip-hop and its subgenres. Cheryl Burton and Terrell Brown will host the special, which will air twice on Sunday, June 18, at 4:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. The special will also be available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, and abc7chicago.com. 

Andre Daniels gained national attention in 2008 with his second Add-2 mixtape, A Tale of Two’s City: Volume 2. From there, he went on to work with big names like Kendrick Lamar and The Roots. Daniels combined his passions for music and mentoring to establish Haven Studios, a free youth studio on Chicago’s South Side. At Columbia, he teaches the course “From Motown to Kendrick Lemar.”   

CaSera Heining’s first foray into DJing was the Columbia course “Club DJ 1.” Since then, she has become a highly sought-after DJ in Chicago and beyond, winning the title of “Chicago’s Best Hip-Hop DJ” in 2021 and 2022 by the Chicago Reader.Heining is also a producer at 720AM WGN Radio.
