Columbia College Chicago Students Gear Up for TEDx Impulse and Impact Event on May 2

Columbia students will present TEDx Impulse and Impact lectures on May 2, exploring the power and potential of creative impulse.

Why are we compelled to chase our desires? How do we execute this impulse in a way that is fulfilling, fruitful, and impactful? These questions will be explored at the student-produced event, TEDx Impulse and Impact, taking place on May 2 at Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash Ave. This unique lecture series delves into the driving forces behind creativity and how that can be translated into rewarding careers and projects.

The event, spearheaded by the TEDx Practicum course under the guidance of instructors Kari Sommers and Monika Jaiswal-Oliver, will be filled with inspiration, featuring three separate 90-minute sessions. Each session will showcase five speakers from Columbia College Chicago's vibrant community – including alumni, faculty, and current students – who will share personal journeys touching on themes of impulse and impact.

"I'm incredibly impressed by the dedication and creativity our students have brought to this project," shares Kari Sommers, Associate Dean of Student Life and instructor for the TEDx Practicum course. "Their commitment to selecting a diverse and inspiring group of speakers is truly commendable."

Attendees can expect an engaging and interactive experience. Following each session, there will be dedicated meet-and-greet opportunities with the speakers, along with refreshment breaks offering a chance to network and connect with fellow attendees.

What truly sets this event apart is the student-driven force behind it. "The fact that this TEDx event is entirely organized and produced by students is truly remarkable," says Eli Dennard, a member of the TEDx Practicum's Production Team. "It's a testament to the talent and initiative of our student body."

"We want attendees to walk away feeling motivated and inspired," adds Eduardo Sanchez, a member of the Presenter Team. "Prepare to be entertained by powerful stories, gain new perspectives, and perhaps even discover potential career paths you haven't considered before."
