Varieties of Disturbance
September 2 - October 24, 2014
Reception September 19, 5-8pm
In the most traditional sense, a portrait is a depiction of a person; face, head and shoulders. But in a more expanded interpretation, a portrait is "a representation or impression of someone or something in language or on film." Through this approach, many images could be perceived as portraits if they attempt to create a representation of a cumulative event, rather than depicting a singular moment or figure.
Varieties of Disturbance looks at the ways environments, both constructed and pre-existing, help build frameworks for viewing culture, society, and landscape as a means for examining the times in which we live in.
Co-curated by members of the Student Exhibition Organization and Cassandra Troyan from work in the Department of Exhibitions, Performance and Student Spaces permanent collection, the exhibition is especially interested in the multi-faceted perspectives and visions of Columbia College Chicago's Alum.
Exhibiting artists include: Sophia Allison, Arturo Carrillo, Erin Cramer, Stephen Jenson, Mark Moleski, Jori Remus, Caitlin Ryan, Kelley Ryan, Katie Swietlik, Joy Whalen, & Dann Wunderlich
