Alessandro Bo is the 2024-25 Diane Dammeyer Fellow at Columbia College Chicago. Originally from Mexico City (b. 1982) and currently based in Oaxaca, Bo’s photographic research titled About Noon consists of two components. The first component documents the Atoyac River, located on the outskirts of Oaxaca City, using its course as a reference point to provide an outsider’s perspective on this evolving territory and investigates the effects of gentrification in Oaxaca de Juárez, driven by tourism and American expatriates. The second component, Walking Practices, focuses on documenting the urban periphery in collaboration with students from Columbia College Chicago and emerging photographers from Oaxaca. This urban archive created through a series of aesthetic walking practices along the city’s margins includes photographs, video footage, and collages.
