Be Prepared for Industry EventsPublished on Feb 18, 2014
If you’re a graduating senior, it’s likely you’ve already started planning for Manifest and Commencement. But have you started preparing for Industry Events yet?
Industry Events are a great opportunity for graduating students to show their work and engage with Industry Professionals. There are twelve industry-specific events and they’ll be here before you know it. (The first one is March 18th!)
“These events tend to have about a 1:1 student to professional ratio, which is amazing. But it means that students will get attention from professionals, and they have to know what kind of expectations professionals have coming in,” says Julie Ford, a Creative Liaison in the Portfolio Center. “Prepared students are the ones who will leave with strong contacts."
Make sure you’re prepared by attending a prep session hosted by The Portfolio Center. These thirty-minute sessions cover everything you need to know: how to present your work, what to wear, what to bring, and how to follow-up with the professionals you meet.
“Networking events can be intimidating, and we find that students go in to events much more confident when they know what to expect and have taken the right steps to prepare,” explains Ford.
