If Artist Ran the Media

Exhibition Dates: December 3, 2008 - February 20, 2009

Spawned by a grave concern of one "millennial" about the apathy and unquestioning nature of her own generation, If Artist Ran the Media is a collective show of artists' responses to the often slanted and biased media outlet: the news. Contemporary American society is incessantly bombarded by countless versions of reality represented as the "news". These altered views are pumped into the psyches of American citizens like water through an IV by way of advertisements, corporate and politically run news stations, Internet blogs, and more. Whether it be the conservative Fox News, or the liberal publication The Nation, each has a chance to proclaim its own perspective, so why not give artists that same chance? Let's let our artists run the media once and for all, if even only from December 3, 2008 - February 20, 2009.

Through painting, illustration, photography, poetry, video, multimedia installation pieces and live performance, this exhibition will give both the viewer and artist an opportunity to critically assess the truth in a world dominated by corporate-run, gossip-laden, partisan-heavy, and politically biased media outlets.
