Chicago Curates Columbia: Audio Arts and Acoustics

April 2 - May 2, 2014

Opening Reception: April 2, 5-7pm

Chicago Curates Columbia is an annual curatorial series that is designed to engage professionals from various creative industries with the diverse arts and culture makers of Columbia. Pairing successful arts practitioners with Columbia College disciplines, the program brings curators to campus to meet with students, provide informed critiques and curate exhibitions of student work. Goals of the program include creating contacts between students and industry professionals and providing exhibition opportunities to students who may not envision their work as existing within a gallery space.

This third edition of Chicago Curates Columbia will highlight students from Audio Arts and Acoustics. As part of the exhibition students will be working with the Chicago composer and performer Eric Leonardson. Leonardson will share his work with the students as well as lead a workshop that will result in the students development and creation of instruments made from everyday materials combined with contact mics.  These audio creations will be on display in the gallery to be viewed and played alongside other sound installations created by Audio Arts and Acoustics students.
