For well over a decade, The Publishing Lab has been a resource for students. Established by Jotham Burrello, who now runs the publishing house known as Elephant Rock Books, the Lab exists to help students overcome the initial fear of submitting their work and discovering the best possible markets for their pieces. You can get started by browsing through our market research, sifting through some how-to guides, finding inspiration in our catalog of published students, or by simply coming in! We're here to help.
Here's how it all works:
Come visit us in the Lab on the 3rd floor of 33 Ida B. Wells Dr, room 317A. We consult with students to go over pieces that they'd like to publish, offering ideas on where to submit, as well as editorial advice on request. We also coordinate book reviews with students, so check out our library of the latest in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for something you might like to read and write a review on. (It's a great way to earn a publication credit.) We're even a great resource for students to visit if they'd simply like to browse a list of genre markets.
As of 2015, the Publishing Lab is also putting forth an online literary magazine known as The Lab Review! We feature new work from students each semester, as well as book reviews and interviews. You can see our submission guidelines on the Lab Review blog here.
The best way to keep up with what's going on in the Lab is to "like" us on Facebook. That's where we post our latest updates, information about our events, and share our recent content.
