Peeling Back the Layers

April 4-May 6, 2025
Opening Reception, Friday, April 4, 5-7pm

Layers can be seen throughout everyday routines such as transportation, cooking and skincare. The artists of Peeling Back the Layers articulated the concept of layering in their own ways, whether through color, materials, or concept using a variety of processes including lithography, silkscreen, photography and collage.

Maya Abraham’s work is an exploration of materials through the distortion of photographs. She creates work as a way to express what she sees in her daily life, mundane things that inspire her include daily routines, transit, and people in conversation. Maria Camacho creates silkscreen prints and stained glass sculptures that represent her Colombian heritage. June Darling’s works are made primarily through felt embroidery, lithography and hand-stitched elements, often depicting the trans body in moments of romance and intimacy, while exploring themes of love, death, and nature. Annika Ingrid’s work is a study of the body’s presence and vulnerability, exploring how it is shaped by both internal and external forces. Her work utilizes lithography, metal working and screenprinting. Anya Cronin recontextualizes found objects intended to be re-discovered, often seen through mixed media and installation pieces. Reina Sundara is inspired by her dual Columbian and Lao heritage, mainly creating work representing Lao culture through lithography, etching, and woodcut.

Participating artists: Maya Abraham, Maria Camacho, Anya Cronin, Juniper Darling, Annika Ingrid and Reina Sundara
