The Columbia College Chicago Academic Center for Tutoring (ACT) provides students from all disciplines, backgrounds, and levels of expertise the opportunity to develop diverse skills and strategies that will enhance their academic success within a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Tutoring interactions span a variety of formats and learning environments to meet individual students’ academic demands. Tutors work collaboratively with students to produce knowledge through high-quality individual, small-group and large-group student-centered learning.
Students should come fully prepared to their sessions with assignment prompts, texts, any instructor feedback they might have, and the homework itself.
Students should come prepared with the appropriate materials for each session. For cancellation policies and other session information, see the full list of Tutoring Rights and Responsibilities here.
For information on specific tutors' subjects and specalties see our tutor info sheet here.
As a learning culture and community of practice, the ACT helps both student users and peer tutors foster self-efficacy, autonomy, and positive habits of mind using transformational strategies and resources.
The mission of the Columbia College Chicago Academic Center for Tutoring is to support, encourage, and empower students to become independent, self-advocating, and resourceful learners.
