Canvas is coming to Columbia College Chicago!

We’re excited to introduce you to Canvas. Columbia College Chicago will be transitioning to this new Learning Management System (LMS), which will eventually replace Moodle. Academic Technology, a new team housed within Information Technology (IT), provides a collaborative, holistic approach toward successful teaching and learning environments. Our team is available to support faculty and students in the use of this new LMS, as well as technology in classrooms and computer labs.

You may have questions on how you will use Canvas as either a student or instructor. More specific information can be found below.

Request Course Migration

To request for a past course to be migrated from Moodle to Canvas, submit a 360 request with the following information:

  1. Course Instructor
  2. Course name
  3. Course number
  4. Course section
  5. Course semester

The Academic Technology team will contact you with assistance once the 360 request is received.

Student FAQs

How do I sign in to Canvas?

Students sign in to Canvas with their OASIS information at canvas.colum.edu.

Students will not have access to Canvas unless they are assigned to a course within Canvas.

For login assistance, call Client Services at 312-369-7001, or email clientservices@colum.edu Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Will I still have classes in Moodle?

Canvas will eventually replace Moodle. Until then, you may have courses on both Moodle and Canvas. Be sure to check with your instructor to see which system your course will be using.

When will I have a Canvas account?

Students must be assigned to a course or resource page within Canvas in order for a Canvas account to be created and enabled.

Why aren't my courses appearing in Canvas?

Please allow 2-4 hours for your courses to appear in Canvas after registration in Oasis.

Why does my dropped course still appear in Canvas?

After you drop your course in Oasis, please allow 2-4 hours for the change to reflect in your Canvas course list.

Instructor FAQs

How do I sign in to Canvas?

Instructors sign in to Canvas with their network ID and password at canvas.colum.edu. This is the same username and password that is used to access campus email.

Example:

Name - Joe Columbia

Username - jcolumbia

Password - Network ID password

Access to Canvas for insturctors will be given on a request basis. To request access to Canvas, please submit a 360 request.

The academic technology team will contact you with assistance once the 360 request is received.

Why can't I see my courses in Canvas?

Instructors will be assigned to courses by their department. The course will be available once it is assigned in the system, and brought in to Canvas.

How do I cross-list my course (META Course)?

To request for a course to be cross-listed, submit a 360 request. In Moodle, this was called a META Course request. 

Please include the following information:

  1. Course Instructor(s)
  2. Course name
  3. Course number
  4. Course section

The Academic Technology team will contact you with assistance once the 360 request is received.

Can I still receive Moodle support?

Instructors will still be able to receive Moodle support for their courses taught within Moodle.

For Moodle support, call 844-897-0429, or visit colum.edusupportcenter.com for chat support or to open a case.

Where do I go to receive instructional design help and Canvas training?

To receive instructional design help and Canvas training, submit a 360 request with the following information:
