Student Government Association Committees

The Student Government Association has three committees dedicated to advocate for the diverse needs of the student body of Columbia College Chicago. Each SGA member serves in at least one committee, and this is where the work gets done.

Internal Affairs:

Thursdays 5:00-6:00PM in The Loft (2nd floor of Student Center in Student Life)

The Internal Affairs Committee organizes and manages all internal affairs of the SGA senate. This includes hearing and reviewing fund requests, developing Senate training and orientation, arranging for guest speakers for Senate meetings, and organizing and implementing internal Senate events. The Internal Affairs Committee meeting alternate each week on Thursdays from 5-6 PM in The Loft. Please reach out to David Henry (VP of Finance) for more information. 

External Affairs: 

Mondays 5:30-6:30PM in The Loft (2nd floor of Student Center in Student Life)

The External Affairs Committee handles recruitments of new members, as well as publicity of the SGA. This includes recruiting new members of the organization, creating and implementing marketing strategies for brand awareness and events. This committee also deals with the publication of all advertisements, flyers, and other promotional materials. The External Affairs Committee meetings are Mondays from 5:30-6:30 PM in The Loft. Student Affairs: 

Tuesdays 6-7PM in The Loft (2nd floor of Student Center in Student Life) 

The Student Affairs Committee addresses the concerns of the student body of Columbia College. This committee handles issues ranging from matters of campus facilities and environment, residence life, and student life concerns to academic and non-academic concerns. Part of the Student Affairs Committee is a standing committee specifically for Graduate Student Affairs. The Student Affairs Committee meetings are open to ALL Columbia College Chicago students! Committee meetings are Tuesdays from 6-7PM in The Loft. Please reach out to Liza Barajas Vasquez (Student Representative to the Board of Trustees) for more information. 

Provisional Committees:

  1. A Provisional Committee is generally understood to be temporary in nature. The E-Board establishes a provisional committee to perform a specific issue or project task. Once the task is completed, the committee disbands. The need or question addressed by the committee generally originates with the students.  
  2. Requests for the creation of a provisional committee must be reviewed and approved by the E-Board. If accepted, the E-Board will appoint a provisional committee with volunteer members will be drawn. A provisional committee falls under the direction and discretion of one of the E-Board members (with the Vice-President being the primary contact and reports directly to the Board.  
  3. Any CCC students may join or propose the creation of a Provisional Committee. 
  4. Students who are not a part of SGA, and who are interested in being a member of a Provisional Committee, need to schedule a training session with an E-Board before they attend their 3rd Provisional Committee meeting.
