Prior to or following a hospitalization, a student should make contact with their instructors to explain their personal circumstances and make a plan for catching-up on work. If a student is struggling to connect with their instructor or a family member needs to act on behalf of a student, the office of Student Assistance & Community Standards can contact instructors when a student is hospitalized. After a hospitalization, before returning to class, students can reach out to the Center for Student Wellbeing to discuss resources on campus, in the community, and making sense of their discharge plan.

We encourage current students to address any safety issues or concerns through the Campus Safety and Security. The team in the Center for Student Wellbeing can assist students with immediate mental health support and advocate for a student who have become a crime victim, while Student Assistance and Community Standards Office can offer practical steps after becoming a victim. You can email Student Assistance at StudentAssistance@colum.edu or call (312) 369-8595, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Any member of the Columbia College Chicago community who experiences any form of sexual misconduct, including sexual violence is encouraged to reach out to the Office of Equity Issues at TitleIX@colum.edu. Similarly, any member of the campus community who experiences any form of discrimination, based on a protected class, is encouraged to reach out to the Office of Equity Issues at TitleIX@colum.edu.

Student Assistance and Community Standards can provide immediate support and advocacy for a student who have experienced a flood, fire, or personal injury. From attending to immediate medical needs to helping you navigate College policies and resources, our team will help you get back on your feet and work to minimize any disruption you may expereince at Columbia.

The Columbia Cares Pantry offers a modest selection of shelf-stable foods to support students experiencing food insecurity. The Pantry is located at 623 S Wabash and is operated by the Dean of Students Office. Enrolled students who express need are eligible to request a bag of groceries each semester. The Dean of Students staff prepares the bag in accordance with a student’s dietary or food restrictions. The Rack is a dedicated space at Columbia for students to access clothing, toiletries, and other personal needs–all for free. Whether students need clothes for an interview or are seeking a safe space to source clothing that best represents their expression and identity, The Rack has something for everyone.
