Some students may need additional accommodations related to their on-campus living space. The Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office is dedicated to providing students with documented disabilities full access to the College’s housing facilities. Accommodations are determined through an interactive process.

When a student completes their housing application, they will be able to indicate a request for housing accommodations. This will trigger a notification to our SSD team to initiate outreach to the student to learn more.

To get a headstart on the accommodation process, students can begin the process by submitting an application and supporting documentation HERE. Once a student has completed their application AND submitted supporting documentation, the SSD team will review and reach out to the student to setup a time to discuss relevant accommodations. 

Nobody should have to face a food insecure situation - going hungry is not an option for us. The Columbia Cares food pantry is supported by alumni and members of the campus community. The goal of the Columbia Cares food pantry is to provide students with shelf-stable food items while they work with our Student Relations and Student Assistance & Community Standards teams toward finding options for sustainable access to food.

Any student who is experiencing difficulty obtaining reliable housing accommodations is encouraged to reach out to our Student Relations team for help. Our Student Assistance team has a wealth of Chicagoland resources to help guide students toward accommodations and options that may work relative to their financial situation, family situation, or other emerging need.

Navigating any relationship while in college can present a host of new challenges. Some students may find themselves having trouble navigating conflict with family members, particularly if the student is residing with them.

Both our Student Relations and Student Assistance and Community Standards teams stand ready to help students experiencing such difficulty. Our teams can help you figure out many different approaches toward resolution, such as how to have a conversation with others all the way through figuring out alternative living accommodations.

STUDENT RELATIONS REQUEST FORM

Living with another human can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but can also create tension and struggle. Students living in a Columbia College Chicago managed residence hall should seek out the assistance of the Resident Assistant (RA) as a first step for assistance in navigating conflict. Your RA has undergone extensive training in how to manage conflict and work through challenging situations.

Following any involvement or intervention from the RA, if conflict continues it may be necessary to involve a full-time staff member, such as your Housing Coordinator. Our Master's level full-time staff have additional training and tools to assist students in navigating conflict and challenge. If all attempts toward resolving conflict have been exhausted, it may be possible for a student to be moved to a new residential space, depending on space availability.

Too frequently, students involved in a roommate conflict may wish to assign "winner" and "loser" titles to the outcome of the conflict. Not only is this unproductive, it has no bearing on resolution or outcome. Instead, students are expected to engage in compromise and consensus. Rather than focusing on who is to blame - try to think about what it would take to move forward.

Roommates are not expected to be best friends, rather roommates are expected to figure out what it takes to live together.

Any student who is the subject of unwanted attention, harassment, sexual misconduct, or discrimination based upon a protected class is encouraged to reach out to our Office of Equity Issues for assistance. Students will be provided with a list of options and resources for moving forward, including the process of filing a complaint and how to pursue accommodations that may provide immediate benefit to the student.
